Meet the Artist - LOUISE DEAN
Behind each bilby is a talented artist, bringing their own creativity, style and story to the Bilby Art Trail. Each artist was invited to transform a bilby into a unique work of art, inspired by their own ideas, experiences and connections.
Meet the artists behind the bilbies and discover the stories, inspiration and creativity behind each one.

a little about Louise
Louise Dean is recognised as a self-taught traditional artist with a particular skill for capturing the vivid colours and scenes encompassing the ever-changing landscapes of her surroundings and outback Australia.
From countless photographs and personal creative ideas, a never-ending source of inspiration, Louise creates artworks that evoke deep personal emotion within the colour, space, nature and iconic features of magical moments eternalised on canvas.

the original concept
Theme: Earth to Sky
In this work, I wanted to explore the quiet dialogue between the four elements connecting Charleville to this project:
The outback colours speak of origin and resilience, and the enduring presence of our local landscape.
The gradual transition into layered blues, evokes the vast Australian night, where the endless stars and vibrant night sky are a reminder of what grounds us and what guides us to look towards greater horizons.
The eucalyptus is uniquely Australian, a representation of the Moreton Bay Ash that has survived the distance of time, a moment of beauty within endurance.
The Bilby is a powerful symbol of survival and regeneration, its artistic form absorbing the elements of connection to place, a sense of belonging.
This piece reflects my ongoing interest in Australian identity – a celebration of Charleville's unique connection to the Bilby and the Murweh region.
Six bilbies. Six artists. One big community story. Follow the Charleville Bilby Art Trail, discover the artwork, capture a photo and help us shine a light on the endangered bilby.
