Meet the Artist - SAMANTHA WALTON
Behind each bilby is a talented artist, bringing their own creativity, style and story to the Bilby Art Trail. Each artist was invited to transform a bilby into a unique work of art, inspired by their own ideas, experiences and connections.
Meet the artists behind the bilbies and discover the stories, inspiration and creativity behind each one.
a little bit about Sam
Sam Walton is an expressive artist based in Toowoomba, Queensland, with over a decade of experience working across studio practice, arts administration, education and event co-ordination. Her work is guided by a belief that art is a powerful way to create connection and reflection.
Alongside her own creative practice, Sam has a strong love of storytelling through conversation, content, and art. She is known for bridging creativity and business with kindness and authenticity, and for supporting creative work in a way that feels human and considered.
the original concept
I would love to paint something that is vibrant, in my style and also relevant to the region.
My concept for the bilby is visual representation of Cosmos flowers, this aligns with my style of art but I also feel it provides a beautiful nod to the Cosmos Centre in Charleville.
My concept is a similar image to that which was the Hero piece for my most recent art exhibition.
Six bilbies. Six artists. One big community story. Follow the Charleville Bilby Art Trail, discover the artwork, capture a photo and help us shine a light on the endangered bilby.
